It borders as far north as Edinburgh, West Lothian, Midlothian and East Lothian. West to Lanarkshire and Dumfries and Galloway. It eventually ends in the south on the English border at Northumberland.
Two things you will find on any holidays here is 1/ it famous for fishing and 2/ textile mills. A fishing holiday in the region gives you the opportunity to take on the River Tweed and its 97 miles of waterway. One of Scotland’s best rivers for salmon fishing.
Furthermore, the Scottish Borders heritage has for over 200 years been strong in the textiles industry. It has been (and still are) producing some of the worlds best woollen & cashmere, tartan & tweed garments. Although the area is pretty much rural, it is also hilly. Therefore, it is worth a visit to view the panoramic English & Scottish border.

Peppered with pretty towns and villages, when you visit the Scottish Borders region, you will always have a warm welcome on hand. Firstly, the most notable and well-known places are Melrose, Hawick, Jedburgh, Selkirk and Lauder. In addition, there is the harbour town of Eyemouth, Kelso, St Boswells, Peebles, Melrose and Tweedbank.
These are now all reachable by train directly to and from Edinburgh. Some of these names you will recognise if you’re a rugby fan. Not to be missed, the The Jim Clark Memorial Room in Duns. It was the home of Jim Clark, a local farmer who went on to become a world champion in Formula 1 racing.
For those seeking to have the sand between there toes on a holiday, should visit Seacliff near Eyemouth with a great beach, views out to the Bass Rock, and nearby Tantallon Castle. Holidays in the region to relax and take your time. The Scottish Borders inspires and a region to explore the beautiful landscape, enjoy the local produce and hospitality.
